Development Examples

Some of the projects that Communitas has worked with or is working with include:

  • Women Building Futures Society,  a community based initiative with two main objectives; one to train women in carpentry and two to provide employment through a worker co-operative to women in the residential construction industry.
  • Multi-Cultural Health Brokers Co-operative Ltd.,  a worker co-operative  providing holistic health cultural brokerage and community development services to a variety of cultural groups.
  • The community of St. Isidore to develop a long term strategic plan to ensure the economic, social and cultural development over the next five years
  • The Saskatchewan Co-operative Association on behalf of the Prairie Hub group to develop a model of the HUB Co-operative Development Initiative as well as a 5 year strategic plan, 1 year action plain and a Memorandum of Understanding.
  • Northern Alberta Co-operative Housing Association (NACHA), Bylaw Renewal Process to develop a new set of operating bylaws for existing continuing housing cooperatives to ensure compliance with the new Cooperatives Act.
  • Edfor to develop and organization framework and related documents for this multi-stakeholder community forestry cooperative.
  • Harambee- Alberta Worker Cooperative to develop an feasibility analysis and business plan and to asst. the group with the implementation of the plan.
  • Northern Alberta Cooperative Housing Association, to develop a sectoral community based land trust for the cooperative housing sector.
  • AARGO, a new generation cooperative, to develop a business plan for the cooperative
  • Just Food Edmonton, to review corporate options and to work with the group to develop their Memorandum and Articles of Association as a Part 9 limited by guarantee corporation.

Check out our newest project, a 200-unit co-op condominium project planned for near the Belvedere LRT station in Edmonton that CBC reported on August 5, 2010 as "a groundbreaking experiment in affordable sustainability".
