(September 19, 2010 Calgary Herald) You can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. The trick, though, is to be able to do it affordably.

In this instance, the sow's ear is the region of Edmonton that used to be called Packingtown. Located in the northeast area of the provincial capital, it was at one time home to stockyards, rendering plants and, more recently, a ragtag mix of mom-and-pop shops.

In short, a neighbourhood badly in need of a facelift. Enter the development consultants at The Communitas Group with a proposal for a four-tower highrise project that could have as many as 220 units.

It's slated for a brownfield site of less than one hectare called Station Pointe Greens at 129th Avenue and Fort Road.
